PNC provisional credit: when do you get your money back?
"Provisional credit" is a temporary refund while your dispute is investigated. Whether PNC owes you one, and by when, depends entirely on whether the disputed charge was on a debit card (Regulation E) or a credit card (Regulation Z).
Debit card · Reg E
Within 10 business days
If PNC cannot finish investigating a debit card dispute within 10 business days, Regulation E (12 CFR 1005.11(c)) requires it to provisionally credit your account within 10 business days and give you full use of the money while it investigates — up to 45 days, or 90 days for point-of-sale and foreign transactions. Accounts opened in the last 30 days get 20 business days instead of 10.
Credit card · Reg Z
No fixed deadline
Regulation Z (12 CFR 1026.13) sets no provisional-credit deadline for credit card disputes. Instead, while PNC investigates a billing error you filed within 60 days, it cannot make you pay the disputed amount or report it delinquent, and it must resolve the dispute within two billing cycles (no more than 90 days). Any earlier credit is a courtesy, not a legal right.

PNC Bank Credit Cards
PNC credit card disputes: log in to pnc.com > Account Details > Dispute a Transaction, or call 1-800-558-8472. PNC follows Reg Z for all credit card billing-error claims. Under Reg Z (12 CFR 1026.13(c)), while the dispute is investigated PNC cannot make you pay the disputed amount or report it delinquent; credit cards have no fixed provisional-credit deadline (the 10-business-day provisional-credit rule applies to debit cards under Reg E).
PNC Bank Debit Product
PNC debit card disputes: call 1-888-PNC-BANK (1-888-762-2265). PNC follows Reg E for debit card disputes. PNC's Zero Liability program applies to Visa-network debit transactions when reported promptly. PNC Virtual Wallet has additional notifications and spending tools that can help consumers detect fraud early and stay within Reg E reporting windows.

Notable Policy
PNC's Virtual Wallet is a linked checking/savings structure with low-balance notifications and spending tracking that can help consumers spot unauthorised transactions within the Reg E 2-day and 60-day reporting windows.
